The Scottish Education System Prep School:
This education is given by the authorities between the ages of 4 and 5. Obligatory School: Primary Education (5-12)
Secundary Education (12-16)
In Scotland, pupils between the ages of 5 and 16 years receive full-time education suitable to their age, ability and aptitude. After 7 years of primary education pupils are transferred to secondary education, usually around the age of 12 years. Many pupils continue their education past compulsory schooling to further and higher education levels, however some pupils leave school at 16 years and undertake employment.
You can get the Scottish Certificate of Education when you finish the Secundary Education at the age of 16 or 17.
Non Obligatory School: High Secundary
There are 2 superior courses after the obligatory secundary education. These courses are necessary whether you want to join at the University.
University:
Students can go to university when they finish the S5 course, at the age of 16. If you want to study popular courses such as Law or Medicine is usually required to study a sixth year at the superior secundary school.
